Once upon a time (okay, the late ’90s), a 4-year-old boy met a 1-year-old girl in a small town called Tompaso. Andrew probably thought more about toy cars than babies, and Niki was too busy learning how to walk. Our parents were close friends and colleagues at SLA Tompaso, so we “met” without having the slightest clue that decades later we’d be standing side by side at the altar. Not long after, Niki’s family moved to Papua, and our story hit pause for many years.
Fast forward to 2018 — Niki returned to SLA Tompaso, this time as a high school student (and one of Andrew’s dad’s students). We knew each other’s names, exchanged polite hellos, but that was it. Andrew soon moved to Jakarta to chase his career dreams, while Niki continued her studies at Unklab. Life moved on… or so we thought.
In January 2022, Niki moved to Jakarta for work. Her cousin, who was one of Andrew’s close friends, kept inviting her to join a Care Group… and Niki kept saying no. She wasn’t interested. But one day, fresh from a breakup and feeling a little galau, she decided maybe she needed something to keep her mind busy — and said yes. That “yes” changed everything. Then came March 2022, the day of the infamous Dufan Ancol outing. Somewhere between rides and laughs, Niki left her plastic spoons with Andrew. He saw an opportunity and said, “I’ll return them to you one piece at a time,” using it as his modus to get closer. It worked. Soon after, with prayer and a hopeful heart, Andrew asked Niki to turn this friendship into something more — and she said yes.
From 2022 to 2024, we shared many laughs, walked through ups and downs, and learned how to love each other better. In August 2024, we decided it was time for the next step. That December, we went home to Manado, received our parents’ blessing, and on the last day of the year, we got engaged. Now, we’re counting the days to October 20, 2025 — the day we will become one. The spoon may have started the story, but it is God who has been leading every step. Soon, we’ll stand before Him and our loved ones to promise a lifetime together, building a home filled with love, laughter, and faith.
